The fossil remains of a species of giant camel have been uncovered in Canada. The species is 3.5 million years old and due to the location, would have lived in very cold conditions, sub-zero in some cases, in addition to “months of perpetual darkness,”. The species was believed to be 2.7m tall, this cold climate ancestor could explain some of the modern day camel adaptations such as the hump, to store food for the long winter.
